A Community Rallies Together to Make a Difference with a Permanent Monument

PLAINFIELD, IN – A Central Indiana resident is looking to build a permanent “thank you” for police officers, firefighters and communications officers in the area. Town of Plainfield resident, Dave Weaver, decided to come up with the idea of the “Celebration of Service Plaza” to recognize and honor public safety personnel for all their hard work in keeping the community safe. With a quoted price tag of $97,000, community members have already helped Weaver raise $10,000.

“It is incredible, the support we have received. In fact, some offenders in the Plainfield Corrections Facility initiated a fundraiser to raise money for the Plaza,” said Dave Weaver. “It says a lot for those who were actually arrested by those public safety officials to want to stand up and commemorate them. That also shows what kind of community we live in!”

The idea is to put the Celebration of Service Plaza in the Friendship Gardens Park in Plainfield, Indiana. It is meant to be in a prominent and well-traveled area, to remind people of the great work public safety personnel do every day.

“It occurred to me one day that we tend to honor our public safety officials after they pass. I did not want to wait until something happens, I thought a monument like this would allow us to bring awareness to those men and women aside from a tragedy,” said Weaver.

Dave Weaver has formed a committee to help drum up volunteers and funds. Lowe’s Home Improvement has offered labor hours in order to help get this project off the ground. Weaver is asking for donations from anyone in the community—whether it is monetary, labor or materials.

“My hope is that this project is revealed in the Fall of 2019. In order to accomplish this goal, we really need the community’s support with donations,” said Dave Weaver.
