BROWNSBURG – The Town of Brownsburg is seeking applications from residents who are interested in serving on the municipality’s boards and commissions. Seats are open for terms beginning January 2016 on the Town’s Advisory Plan Commission, Board of Zoning Appeals, Economic Development Commission, Redevelopment Commission, and Police Commission.
Appointments will also be made to the Brownsburg Improvement Committee, the Brownsburg Park Impact Fee Board and to the Town Manager and Northfield at Wynne Farms advisory boards.
Under Indiana Law, the Plan Commission is responsible for the Town’s comprehensive plan, zoning ordinance, subdivision control, approving development plans, and assigning street addresses. The Plan Commission seat is a 4-year term open to a Town employee, elected official, or a current board or commission member.
The Board of Zoning Appeals (BZA) is responsible for granting developmental standards, use and special exceptions/conditional use variances. One 4-year BZA appointment is open. The Redevelopment Commission (RDC) assists with planning and development for businesses in the corporate limits and promotes land use that is in the best interest of the Town. The RDC members are appointed annually.
The Economic Development Commission promotes economic development and approves incentives to qualified businesses seeking to start, relocate, and expand their business
operations within the corporate limits of the Town. There is a 2-year appointment open.
The Police Commission is responsible for the rules and regulations for the management of the Brownsburg Police Department. There is a 3-year appointment available.
The Brownsburg Improvement Committee promotes the preservation, protection and redevelopment of Brownsburg’s traditional downtown area and other areas in the Town’s Tax Increment Finance (TIF) districts. It is responsible for the Façade Improvement Grant program. There are 1-year appointments available: one for an EDC member; an RDC member; a Plan Commission member; an engineer or architect; and a position requiring no specific professional expertise.
The three-member Impact Fee Review Board hears appeals from developers and builders relative to impact fees assessed to their proposed development for infrastructure. The board must consist of a real estate broker licensed in Indiana; an engineer licensed in Indiana; and a certified public accountant.
The Northfield at Wynne Farms Advisory Board advises the municipality on the provision of services to that annexed territory. Appointments are 1-year terms open to Wynne Farms residents. There is also a seat available to a licensed engineer.
Town of Brownsburg boards and commissions meetings are held regularly at Town Hall, 61 N. Green Street, and are open to the public. Live video of the meetings is streamed on the internet and archived on the Town’s website.
The Town Manager Advisory Committee meets informally to provide input and feedback for the administration. Seats are 1-year appointments.
