INDIANAPOLIS (September 30, 2015) – The Indiana Department of Workforce Development (DWD) today unveiled the new regional Hoosier Hot 50 Jobs lists highlighting top jobs around the state. These regional lists are modeled after the statewide jobs list released last year and contain projections of the 50 most high-wage, high-demand jobs in each of Indiana’s 12 economic growth regions over the next decade.
The regional Hoosier Hot 50 Jobs lists are based on an index of seven weighted occupational measures of growth and opportunity for Hoosiers based on Indiana’s Occupational Projections and wage data from the Occupational Employment Statistics (OES) survey. Data is analyzed by the DWD in conjunction with the United States Department of Labor.
“These top jobs are a key factor to help determine what education and training resources are needed moving forward so the Hoosier workforce has the needed skills and competencies to fill the 1 million-plus jobs projected to become available over the next decade,” said Steven J. Braun, Commissioner of the DWD. “We encourage Hoosier students and educators to utilize these materials to inform career choices and align relevant educational classes, pathways and opportunities.”
The DWD is currently developing a demand-driven system, ultimately working in conjunction with employers and educators, to identify key occupational skills that will be accessible in real time to inform educational pathways and student choices. The statewide Hot Jobs list is updated every two years, a timetable Braun is expediting to share more accurate information with students and families.
