Single Vehicle Crash on I-70 Claims the Life of an Illinois Man

Indianapolis, IN – Last night, just after 9:00 emergency crews responded to I-70 eastbound near Shadeland Avenue for reports of a single vehicle crash. When paramedics arrived the male driver was unconscious and unresponsive. Despite life saving efforts from first responders, 45 year old Kevin Burdell of Springfield Illinois was pronounced deceased at the hospital.

Investigating officers are not sure what caused Burdell to drive off the road and into the ditch. There was damage to the vehicle however investigators will work with the Marion County Coroner’s Office to determine if Burdell suffered fatal injuries as a result of the crash, or if he had a medical issue prior to the crash.

This investigation is ongoing and there is no further information to release at this time. There were no other occupants in the vehicle and no other vehicles involved. The right lane of I-70 was closed for approximately 3 hours while the crash was investigated and the wreckage was removed.
