WASHINGTON, DC– Today, Vice Chair of the House Budget Committee, Congressman Rokita, released this statement after voting in favor of President Trump’s 2018 Rescissions Package:
“Washington does not have a revenue problem. It has a spending problem,” said Congressman Todd Rokita. “This package cuts over $15 billion in unused government funds and is a step forward in breaking the cycle of reckless spending that has plagued Washington for decades. As Vice Chairman of the House Budget Committee, I will continue to work with President Trump in reducing our $21 trillion national debt and get our fiscal budget and priorities back in order.”
Congressman Todd Rokita is a cosponsor of the Balanced Budget Amendment and is a leader in proposing budget legislation that would make our government more fiscally responsible. Earlier this year, Rokita voted against both the Omnibus and Bipartisan Budget Act because they added trillions of dollars to our surging debt without putting us on a path to fiscal solvency.
The Rescissions Package includes:
Rescinding more than $15 billion in previous appropriated funding that has sat unused:
- $523 million in energy loans from the 2009 stimulus package.
- $86 million in unspent transportation earmarks.
- $30 million for economic development assistance grants.
- $13 million for high energy cost grants.
