Plainfield Police Chief appoints Lees and Prewitt as Deputy Chiefs

PLAINFIELD, IN – Assistant Chief Jared McKee has begun the shaping of his administration in anticipation of his swearing in as Chief on August 16th.  At the Board of Police Commissioners meeting this evening, McKee will announce the appointments of two Deputy Chiefs who will join the executive leadership team of the department and lead their respective divisional areas. Support Services Division Captain—Jill Lees—and Uniform Division Lieutenant—Kyle Prewitt—have both been named Deputy Police Chief for the Plainfield Police Department. The Town of Plainfield worked with Assistant Chief McKee to restructure their organization chart in order to help the department meet the needs of a growing community. Lees and Prewitt will begin the transition to their new roles immediately.

“I believe this is a move in the right direction for the Plainfield Police Department,” said Councilmember Kent McPhail. “The restructuring of the org chart will really keep us moving forward.”

Deputy Police Chief Jill Lees

Captain Jill Lees has served the Town of Plainfield since 1995 and has been Captain of the Support Services Division since 2012. Lees is originally from Hammond, Indiana and graduated from Indiana University in Bloomington. Lees worked as an IU Campus Police Officer before being sworn into the Plainfield PD. In 2006, Lees graduated from Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis with a Graduate Certificate in Public Management and was then named the Department’s CALEA (Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies) Accreditation Manager. Lees works off-duty as a CALEA Assessor; she is also a DARE Officer, R.A.D. Instructor, Chaplain, Hostage Negotiator and Public Information Officer for the Plainfield Police Department. As Deputy Chief, Lees will be in charge of the Support Services, Detective and Records Branches of the department.

“I cannot express enough how grateful we are to have Captain Lees and Lieutenant Prewitt join our new Chief in leading our department; they both have the experience and expertise to lead any department in the state.  The fact that they choose to continue to serve Plainfield says a lot about their loyalty and character.  I am very happy for them in obtaining their new roles and am happier still for the Plainfield community as we all will continue to benefit from their leadership,” said Assistant Town Manager, Nate Thorne.

Deputy Police Chief Kyle Prewitt

Lieutenant Kyle Prewitt has served the Town of Plainfield since 2006 and has been a Lieutenant in the Uniform Division since 2013. Prewitt is originally from Lawrence County, Indiana, graduated from Mitchell High School and obtained his Bachelors of Science from Indiana State University in Terre Haute. Prewitt served in Infantry in the United States Marine Corps (USMC) Reserve, attaining the rank of Sergeant before completing his service. During his time in the USMC, Prewitt deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Prewitt is currently an Indiana Law Enforcement Training Board Certified Master Instructor. As Deputy Chief, Prewitt will be in charge of the Operations and Patrol Branches of the department.

“I am honored and excited to be able to appoint Jill Lees and Kyle Prewitt to the position of Deputy Chief.  I have been able to work closely with these officers for several years which has enabled me to witness firsthand the expertise that they each hold in this line of work,” Assistant Chief McKee explained, “I am excited to have these two individuals by my side collaborating efforts to continue engaging and improving not only our officers but our community relations as well.  They have proven time and time again to be an asset to this department and I see nothing but bright futures for the both of them.”
