Plainfield Police Arrest Suspect in March Road Rage Shooting

PLAINFIELD, IN – On Friday, October 20, 2023, the Plainfield Police Department made a significant breakthrough in a road rage shooting incident that occurred on March 1, 2023, at the intersection of Solidago Drive and Township Line Road. The incident, which had left a pregnant woman injured, involved a dispute between two vehicles in the early morning hours.

Curtis Cutler

Curtis Cutler, 37 years old, and a resident of Indianapolis, IN, has been taken into custody and is believed to be the individual responsible for both driving the vehicle and discharging the firearm during the March altercation.

During the altercation, an adult pregnant female passenger, Julianna M. Martinez, 20 years old and a resident of Avon, IN, who was seated in the front passenger seat of the victim’s vehicle, became the target of a gunshot that was fired from the driver’s side of a small white cargo/delivery van. The shooting inflicted a life-threatening wound to Ms. Martinez, forcing her to undergo an emergency C-section. This not only jeopardized her life but also the life of her unborn child. Fortunately, both Ms. Martinez and her newborn baby survived after being hospitalized for several days.

The investigation into this incident was extensive and involved the execution of numerous search warrants and the utilization of various investigative techniques, all aimed at achieving resolution and justice. Curtis Cutler has been apprehended and is now held in the Hendricks County Jail.

Cutler faces the following charges:

  • Attempted Murder (35-42-1-1), an F1 Felony
  • Aggravated Battery (35-42-2-1.5), an F3 Felony
  • Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Serious Violent Offender (35-47-4-5), an F4 Felony
  • Criminal Recklessness (35-42-2-2), an F5 Felony

All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
