Merritt Enters Race for Indianapolis Mayor

Indianapolis – State Senator Jim Merritt (R) officially announced his candidacy for Mayor of Indianapolis at an event held Thursday on the north side of Indianapolis. Former Mayor Greg Ballard served as speaker at the event and will be the Chairman of Merritt’s Campaign Committee.

During his announcement and in a press release, Merritt emphasized that he did not make the decision lightly and, like Ballard, wants to give back to his hometown, saying “Our city is going in the wrong direction and we can’t afford four more years of Joe Hogsett,”

Merritt stated that Hogsett has completely failed Indianapolis when it comes to crime. He also stated that he planned to improve Indianapolis include increasing the size of law enforcement recruiting classes and working directly and actively with successful neighborhood and community organizations, such as the Ten Point Coalition, to take their grassroots efforts to the next level.

He went on to say “…the citizens deserve a better alternative. That’s why I’m running for mayor.”
