INDIANAPOLIS – Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) Homicide detectives arrest thirty-six-year-old Rachel McAfee for her alleged involvement in the death of Emma McAfee.
On March 5, 2019, just after 2:56p.m., officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) were dispatched to the 2600 Block of Stanford Court on a call to check the welfare. When officers arrived, they observed a female and a baby in the vehicle, identified as Rachel and Emma McAfee. Indianapolis Emergency Services (IEMS) and Indianapolis Fire Department (IFD) responded to the scene. Rachel McAfee was taken to Eskenazi hospital by IEMS. Despite life-saving efforts, Emma McAfee was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Homicide detectives responded to the scene and began canvassing the area, speaking to witnesses. The Indianapolis-Marion County Forensic Services Agency responded to assist with identifying and collecting potential forensic evidence.
The Marion County Coroner’s Office responded to the scene to assist. An autopsy will be conducted to determine manner and cause of death. Rachel McAfee was preliminarily charged with neglect of a dependent causing death. Rachel McAfee remains hospitalized at this time.
