IMPD and Indiana State Police recover multiple stolen vehicles and trailers

INDIANAPOLIS – Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) Southeast District Flex Team and Northwest District Officers make apprehension on suspect with multiple warrants after brief pursuit, which leads to recovery of multiple stolen vehicles.

Kevin Gray

Just after 5 p.m. on 12/05/2018, officers with the IMPD Southeast Flex Team were in the 5800 block of W 41st Place, actively looking for Kevin Gray (34), who was wanted on multiple warrants, and known to frequent the area. Observant officers observed a Ford F-350 dually driveby and they recognized the driver as being Kevin Gray. When the officers turned around to stop the vehicle, it immediately fled.

During the pursuit it was revealed that the vehicle Gray was fleeing in had been reported stolen in late November. Gray later wrecked the vehicle into a pole and then attempted to get into another vehicle. Officers caught up to him, where Gray then resisted arrest. After a brief struggle, officers were able to gain control and take Gray into custody.

During the course of the investigation, officers made contact with Indiana State Police, who also responded out to the incident address and recovered five other stolen vehicles and two stolen trailers. Gray was preliminarily charged with auto theft, resisting arrest, and also taken on multiple warrants out of Hamilton, Henry, Johnson, and Marion Counties. He was later transported to prisoner intake for processing. The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office will review the case and make a charging decision.

The successful apprehension of this suspect highlights how collaboration between detectives, district officers, and the Indiana State Police results in positive outcomes for our community. The IMPD would like to thank our partners at Indiana State Police for their assistance in this investigation. IMPD beat officers work every day to build relationships, prevent crime, and seek out those who perpetrate crime in our neighborhoods.
