STATEHOUSE (Dec. 16, 2025) – Local communities received over $1.3 million in state funding for local road and bridge projects, according to Hendricks County lawmakers.
The Community Crossings Matching Grant Program, established through a law House Republicans passed in 2016, offers funding to local communities for road repairs, bridge maintenance, intersection upgrades and other infrastructure projects. Nearly 200 communities received $100 million in state matching grants for this round of funding.
“These matching grants have helped communities of all sizes across the state speed up essential road and bridge projects,” said State Rep. Greg Steuerwald (R-Avon). “This funding ensures our infrastructure is in good condition so Hoosiers and visitors alike can travel safely.”
Area grant recipients include:
- Amo, $42,536;
- Avon, $999,958;
- Clayton, $257,956; and
- Danville, $91,980.
“Working with communities on maintaining our roads helps them and the state thrive,” said State Rep. Jeff Thompson (R-Lizton). “Safe infrastructure is imperative to economic development and growing our cities and towns.”
State Rep. Craig Haggard (R-Mooresville) noted that to be eligible for funding, smaller municipalities must contribute 20 percent in local funds, while larger communities are required to provide a 50 percent match. State guidelines also ensure that half of the available matching funds each year are directed to communities in counties with populations of 50,000 or fewer. Since 2016, the Community Crossings program has invested over $2 billion in enhancing local roads and bridges.
“Whether someone is driving to work, school or the grocery store, well-maintained roads matter and these matching grants help communities deliver important infrastructure projects,” Haggard said. “Community Crossings continues to be a smart use of Hoosier taxpayer dollars, keeping our roads safe and economy moving.”
