Drug Investigation Results in 10 Felony Charges and Recovery of Four Pounds of Meth in Peru

Peru – Monday, an approximately one year narcotics investigation by officers assigned to the Indiana State Police Peru Post’s All Crimes Policing Unit resulted in the arrest of John W. Osborne, 30, Peru, IN.  Osborne was incarcerated in the Miami County Jail to face felony charges for conspiracy to deal methamphetamine, maintaining a common nuisance, neglect of a dependent, possession of methamphetamine, possession of a narcotic drug, conspiracy to deal marijuana, possession of marijuana, two counts for possession of stolen property, and conspiracy to deal a narcotic drug. He has a surety bond of $120,000.

During the course of the investigation, officers developed probable cause to obtain multiple Miami Circuit Court search warrants for homes and vehicles in Miami County, and a residence in Cass County.  A majority of the warrants were for trailers and vehicles located in Matt’s Mobile Home Manor on State Road 218 west of U.S. 31. Osborne resided in the trailer park.

Monday at approximately 11:20 a.m., officers from the Indiana State Police, the Miami County Sheriff’s Department Police Department, and the Cass County Sheriff’s Department, executed search warrants. During their search at various locations officers allegedly found approximately four pounds of crystal methamphetamine, approximately four pounds of marijuana, a handgun, two stolen all-terrain vehicles, heroin, and approximately $120,000 in United States currency.

All of the recovered contraband was purportedly found in four trailers, and a wooded area, in and near Matt’s Mobile Home Manor. Two trailers were occupied while two others were abandoned. It is alleged Osborne stashed the contraband in the various locations.

Osborne was arrested after a traffic stop on U.S. 31 near Miami County Road 500 South. He had his month old son with him in the vehicle. The child was released into the care of the Miami County Division of the Indiana Department of Child Services.

Assisting with the investigation were troopers working from the Indiana State Police Peru Post, the Miami County Sheriff’s Department, the Cass County Sheriff’s Department, and the Miami County Prosecutor’s Office.

All criminal defendants are to be presumed innocent until, and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
