Crowdfunding campaign launched for the “City Center Marquee” Project

INDIANAPOLIS – Residents and visitors to downtown Rushville will soon see a bright new marquee sign outside the soon-to-open City Center, thanks to a recently launched crowdfunding campaign. The campaign is sponsored by the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority (IHCDA) and offered through the crowdfunding platform developed by Patronicity. The campaign is led by the City of Rushville.

“The City Center Marquee is truly crowning jewel established by years of work by the City of Rushville and a number of community, not-for-profit and faith-based partners,” said Lt. Governor Suzanne Crouch.”We are excited to partner with Rushville as they bring entertainment, education and government services to a historic downtown building.”

If the campaign reaches its $50,000 goal by October 5th, the ‘City Center Marquee’ project will receive a matching grant of $50,000 from IHCDA’s CreatINg Places program.

The funding raised during this campaign will the City to complete the innovative City Center project as it was originally envisioned: a highly visible community asset. Within the former Masonic Lodge will be a one-screen theater managed by Wolf Theater and classrooms for Ivy Tech on the first floor, with City Hall located on the second floor. The marquee will not only complete the project but will also tie the building’s renovation with the rest of the development happening in downtown Rushville.

“This project has been a long time coming. We have worked on this project for nearly 20 years,” said Mayor Michael P. Pavey. “To see the renovations happen before our eyes and to know that we are nearing the finish line is extremely rewarding. This project which utilizes a piece of our past, will greatly enhance the future of downtown Rushville.”

“I am most excited about seeing this historic building come back to life. I look forward to seeing people, lots of people, utilizing the new spaces helping to create a more vibrant and exciting feel in our community,” said Brian Sheehan, Director of Special Projects. “This, along with our new Farmer’s Market and Riverside Park Amphitheater are creating a dynamic downtown that our citizens can be proud of and one that will attract others to visit the area.”

“It’s exciting to see and be a part of this project,” said Darilyn Bedel, Project Coordinator. “To see the changes happening in Rushville makes me happy that we made the decision to return to our hometown.  Hopefully, investments like this will encourage more to do the same.”

Since the CreatINg Places program began last fall, projects have raised in excess of $1,330,000 in public funds and an additional $1,100,000 in matching IHCDA funds.

The CreatINg Places program is available to projects located in Indiana communities. Non-profit entities (with 501c3 or 501c4 status) and Local Units of Government are eligible to apply.

Eligible projects must have a minimum total development cost of $10,000, where the recipient will receive $5,000 in IHCDA matching funds should they successfully raise $5,000 through Patronicity. IHCDA will provide matching grant funds up to $50,000 per project.
