Crowdfunding campaign launched for “River Park Square Launch” Project in Plymouth

INDIANAPOLIS – Plymouth residents and visitors will soon enjoy a new accessible kayak and canoe launch along the Yellow River, thanks to a recently launched crowdfunding campaign. The campaign is sponsored by the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority (IHCDA) and offered through the crowdfunding platform developed by Patronicity. The campaign is led by the City of Plymouth.

“The Yellow River is a beautiful, natural asset in the City of Plymouth,” said Lt. Governor Suzanne Crouch. “The River Park Square will provide a new, ADA accessible, new pedestrian bridge. This will allow individuals with all different kinds of abilities to enjoy river-based activities.”

The funding raised during this campaign will allow the City of Plymouth to install an ADA accessible kayak and canoe launch in River Park Square near downtown Plymouth. Funds will also cover installation of a walkway with ADA access from an existing parking lot to the launch. Once installed, this new kayak and canoe launch will allow for greater access to the Yellow River, one of Plymouth’s greatest assets, and will support trips from the launch already installed upriver at Centennial Park.

“The City of Plymouth and Plymouth Park Department look forward to the installation of an ADA accessible launch in our beautiful River Park Square,” said Michael Hite, Park Superintendent for Plymouth. “We are constantly striving to provide our citizens and visitors alike numerous outdoor recreational activities to be a part of here in Plymouth.  We can’t wait to see how this brings people together on our river, in our park, and throughout our downtown.”

Since the CreatINg Places program began last fall, projects have raised in excess of $1,620,000 in public funds and an additional $1,375,000 in matching IHCDA funds.

The CreatINg Places program is available to projects located in Indiana communities. Non-profit entities (with 501c3 or 501c4 status) and Local Units of Government are eligible to apply.

Eligible projects must have a minimum total development cost of $10,000, where the recipient will receive $5,000 in IHCDA matching funds should they successfully raise $5,000 through Patronicity. IHCDA will provide matching grant funds up to $50,000 per project.
