Crowdfunding campaign launched for “Cafe Creative” Project

INDIANAPOLISIndianapolis residents in the near northwest neighborhoods will soon be able to enjoy a new creative coworking and event/performance space thanks to a recently launched crowdfunding campaign. The campaign is sponsored by the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority (IHCDA) and offered through the crowdfunding platform developed by Patronicity. The campaign is led by the Kheprw Institute, as a follow-up to their successful campaign from last winter.

“Having a place within the community where people can come and share creative ideas is extremely valuable,” said Lt. Governor Suzanne Crouch. “Cafe Creative will provide a place where people can come together to bring change to the near northwest neighborhoods of Indianapolis.”

If the campaign reaches its $30,000 goal by January 8th the “Cafe Creative” project will receive a matching grant of $30,000 from IHCDA’s CreatINg Places program.

The funding raised during this campaign will allow the Kheprw Institute to convert their space at the Renaissance Center at 3549 Boulevard Place into a coworking cafe for groups and individuals. The space will also be available to rent for meetings, events and performances. Kheprw will use the space to host their own events on a monthly basis, to give the public an opportunity to enjoy the arts through the work or performances of local artists and discuss critical issues such as  healthy food, public transportation, affordable housing and equitable community development.

“We are excited about the possibilities! There’s nothing like Cafe Creative currently in the area. This is a great opportunity to engage the gifts and talents of the community’s creatives in communicating the change we want to see in the world and working to make it a reality, said Pambana Uishi, Office Manager at Kheprw Institute.

Since the CreatINg Places program began in 2016, projects have raised in excess of $1,980,000 in public funds and an additional $1,693,000 in matching IHCDA funds.

The CreatINg Places program is available to projects located in Indiana communities. Non-profit entities (with 501c3 or 501c4 status) and Local Units of Government are eligible to apply.

Eligible projects must have a minimum total development cost of $10,000, where the recipient will receive $5,000 in IHCDA matching funds should they successfully raise $5,000 through Patronicity. IHCDA will provide matching grant funds up to $50,000 per project.
