Crowdfunding campaign launched for “Blue Line Park” Project

INDIANAPOLIS – Westville Police Department hopes to build a universally accessible play space in central Westville thanks to a recently launched crowdfunding campaign. The campaign is sponsored by the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority (IHCDA) and offered through the crowdfunding platform developed by Patronicity. The campaign is led by the Westville Police Department, as a result of the city’s master planning process and need for a playground .

“The Westville Police Department moved into and renovated a vacant building with the vision of it being a community hub within the core of the neighborhood,” said Lt. Governor Suzanne Crouch. “Blue Line Park is the next step in this process. The park will encourage physical fitness and bring together families in close proximity of the Westville Main Street commercial district.”

If the campaign reaches its $15,000 goal by February 1, 2019  the Blue Line Park project will receive a matching grant of $15,000 from IHCDA’s CreatINg Places program.

The funding raised during this campaign will allow the Westville Police Department to complete the build out of their community hub in downtown Westville. As a result, this playground, which will be designed in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), will quickly fill a need that currently exists for families in Westville.

“This police department has become a cornerstone for our community,” said Darin Mercer, Chief of the Westville Police department. “This project and the IHCDA’s involvement is creating a way and a place for us to become even more connected with our community and especially the youth in our community.”

Since the CreatINg Places program began in 2016, projects have raised in excess of $1,980,000 in public funds and an additional $1,693,000 in matching IHCDA funds.

The CreatINg Places program is available to projects located in Indiana communities. Non-profit entities (with 501c3 or 501c4 status) and Local Units of Government are eligible to apply.

Eligible projects must have a minimum total development cost of $10,000, where the recipient will receive $5,000 in IHCDA matching funds should they successfully raise $5,000 through Patronicity. IHCDA will provide matching grant funds up to $50,000 per project.
