Coats Votes to Strengthen Sanctions Against North Korea

WASHINGTON, DC – Senator Dan Coats (R-Ind.) today voted to strengthen and expand sanctions against North Korea. The legislation comes after a North Korean nuclear test last month and a long-range rocket launch by the country over the weekend in the isolated state.

“Simply standing by and allowing this regime to continue building up its weapons program is unacceptable,” said Coats. “This legislation will strengthen existing sanctions and work to ensure North Korea’s leaders cannot access additional funds to continue developing nuclear weapons. We cannot allow this brinksmanship on the Korean Peninsula to continue, and I call on our allies and regional partners to also condemn these tests.”

The bill passed by a vote of 96-0.
