INDIANAPOLIS – Senator Dan Coats (R-Ind.) today praised passage of the STREAM Act (H.R. 1644) by the House of Representatives last night. The House-passed bill, which would increase transparency and prevent government overreach in the rulemaking process related to mining activities, is similar to Senate legislation introduced by Coats earlier this year.
“I applaud the House’s vote to combat the secretive and crippling federal overreach that is threatening our nation’s miners and the backbone of our electricity supply,” said Coats. “We need an energy policy that responsibly utilizes our natural resources, instead of strangling growth and limiting the use of cost-effective, abundant energy resources. I call on my Senate colleagues to quickly take action on the STREAM Act and stand up to the Obama Administration’s war on coal.”
Coats introduced the Supporting Transparent Regulatory and Environmental Actions in Mining Act of 2015 (STREAM Act) on May 22, 2015. The legislation (S. 1458) currently has 21 co-sponsors.
