Camp Kesem at Indiana State University Celebrates “Children Impacted by a Parent’s Cancer Month” and the Opening of Free Summer Camp Registration

Camp Kesem at Indiana State University, a nationwide community driven by passionate college student leaders that supports children through and beyond their parent’s cancer, is pleased to announce that, in honor of January being named “Children Impacted by a Parent’s Cancer Month” – which Kesem is the sponsor of – it is now accepting online applications for its free summer camp session. The purpose of “Children Impacted by a Parent’s Cancer Month” is to bring attention to the needs of the over 5 million children in our country who have been impacted by a parent’s cancer. Visit www.kesem.org for more information.

In the summer of 2018, nearly 9,000 children attended free summer camps during over 100 week-long sessions of Camp Kesem held at fun and exciting sites from coast-to-coast. Camp Kesem at Indiana State University is organized by dedicated students from Indiana State University and supports children of families from  The Wabash Valley and surrounding areas. In summer 2019, Camp Kesem at Indiana State University will host around 25 campers June 2-7 at Flat Rock YMCA Camp in St.Paul, Indiana.

Over 5 million children have been impacted by a parent’s cancer and Camp Kesem is the largest national organization dedicated to this unique population. This camping experience and Kesem’s year-round support has a lasting impact on children by providing them a peer-support network that understands their unique needs, builds confidence and strengthens their communication skills.

Children attending Camp Kesem at Indiana State University will participate in a host of fun activities including swimming, kayaking, messy games, a talent show, and so much more. Nightly “Cabin Chats” allow campers to open up to their peers and counselors.

Camp Kesem at Indiana State University is organized by dedicated students at Indiana State University who work year long to plan and fundraise for an impactful week of camp. Student volunteers and counselors experience leadership development and undergo extensive training prior to camp. Camp Kesem is provided free of charge to all participating families and is therefore supported by private donations and community support.
