Alcohol Available for the Summer Concert Series in Arbuckle Acres Park

Brownsburg – It was announced in the June 7th newsletter from the Brownsburg Parks & Recreation Dept. Along with the sounds of local bands, guests attending the Summer Concert Series can find a new array of refreshments available for purchase. At its May 23 meeting, the Brownsburg Town Council voted 4 to 1 to approve the amendment of Town Code Chapter 130 Section 5 as it relates to the consumption of alcohol on Town property. That amendment allows for events at municipally owned properties to apply for a temporary beer and wine permit. Brownsburg Parks is working with Indy Beer Taps to provide beer and wine sales at select events, including the Summer Concert Series.  Brownsburg Parks & Recreation Department Director Travis Tranbarger told us that it wasn’t a new conversation for the Town or the Parks Department.

“Every time that we’re out at an event or a program especially where its promoting social activity in something like our Summer Concerts or the Blues and BBQ Fest, you get that question quite a bit. So I commend the Town Council, the Park Board, and staff who work together to come up with a safe way to put on these events with this additional social activity. So we’re looking forward to the benefits it provides that the community as they attend events moving forward.”

Tranbarger went on to say the Parks Department has taken extra measures to prepare for the change.

“We formed a working group by that consisted of a council member, Park Board member, as well as our Event on Town Property Committee which has staff from certain departments. We certainly got the input from the police department as well as fire territory. We modeled our policy off of the state’s temporary beer and wine permit policy for those who are planning of an event on Town property that would like to have this additional social activity. They actually have to go through the state first and obtain their temporary permit then they can come before the Event on Town Property Committee with the Town and apply for an additional event permit with this activity. There’s quite a bit of work that has to be done to prepare for this activity to be at the event so that it still promotes a safe fun environment for the additional attendees.

The next event in the Brownsburg Summer Concert Series will be on July 18th with the Endless Summer Band.
