Three Vehicle Crash Injures Two

Vigo County—This morning at 5:55, Indiana State Police First Sergeant Matt Mischler came upon a three vehicle crash in the northbound lanes of US 41 at Oregon Church Road. The crash sent two drivers to Terre Haute Regional Hospital for substantial injuries.

Preliminary investigation revealed a 2014 Peterbuilt Republic Services refuse truck, driven by 53-year-old Shawn Ransford of Carlisle, IN., was attempting to turn east onto Oregon Church Road from US 41, when it was struck in the rear by a 2012 GMC Acadia, driven by 33-year-old Blaze Pollard of Greenwood, IN. The impact left the Pollard vehicle without lights and setting in the northbound travel portion of US 41. As Ransford exited his vehicle to assist Pollard, a third vehicle, 2005 Buick Rendezvous, driven by 54-year-old F. Douglas Springer of Terre Haute, IN. did not see the disabled GMC on US 41 in the darkness and struck the GMC in the rear. This impact, forced the GMC into Shawn Ransford as he was standing at the GMC assisting Blaze Pollard.

Shawn Ransford was transported to Terre Haute Regional Hospital for treatment of hip, chest, and head injuries. F. Douglas Springer was also transported to Terre Haute Regional Hospital for treatment of lower leg and chest injuries. Blaze Pollard was not transported for any injuries.

Blaze Pollard was cited for speed too fast to avoid a collision and no vehicle insurance. No other drivers were cited.

The crash was investigated by ISP F/Sgt. Matt Mischler. Assisting was ISP Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Master Trooper Matt Ames, Vigo County Sheriff’s Office, Honey Creek Fire/Rescue, Riley Fire/EMS, Trans Care EMS, and Peffley and Hinshaw Wrecker Service.
