Indiana to participate in national College Application Day on September 29

Hoosier high school students across the state will participate in College Application Day on September 29. Thirteen Indiana colleges will waive their fees in recognition of College Application Day, and more than 50 events will occur statewide—making this Indiana’s biggest College Application Day since joining the initiative in 2013.

College Application Day is sponsored in partnership by Learn More Indiana and the national American College Application Campaign to increase the number of first-generation and low-income students who pursue education beyond high school.

“There’s no question that the value of higher education has never been greater,” Indiana Commissioner for Higher Education Teresa Lubbers said. “College Application Day encourages and provides assistance to students as they take a critical step toward improving their futures by applying to college.”

Schools have the flexibility to designate any day that is deemed most appropriate as College Application Day. The primary purpose of this effort is to help high school seniors navigate the complex college admissions process and ensure they apply to at least one college or university. Schools are encouraged to host events during the school day to provide assistance to students who might not otherwise apply to college.

The College Application Day kick-off event will take place in the Ben Davis High School gymnasium on Friday, September 29 at 10 a.m. EDT. 1500 high school students will attend the college fair taking place and approximately 400 seniors are expected to apply to college.

All 50 states are engaged in College Application Day efforts, with national headquarters in Washington D.C. providing technical assistance, training and data collection and evaluation.

College Application Day is an important part of Indiana’s College GO! campaign, Learn More Indiana’s fall initiative to help Hoosiers of all ages take steps to explore and prepare for college and career success. Learn more at LearnMoreIndiana.org/college.
