On October 5, 2016, at 8:59 p.m., Southwest officers were dispatched to the Burger King located at 5199 W. Washington St on reports of shots being fired inside the business. Dispatch put out a description of the suspects and stated that they were attempting to rob the restaurant. Responding officers were familiar with the description of the suspects because this same description had been listed in the previous robberies the last few nights. When officers arrived on the scene, they learned that there were several employees and customers inside the business at the time of the attempted robbery. One customer who was armed attempted to stop the suspects from robbing the restaurant and shots were exchanged.
The suspects ran out of the restaurant and left the area in a getaway vehicle. Shortly after the vehicle was stopped Officers performed a Felony traffic stop and there were five individuals inside the vehicle two adults and three juveniles all who were transported to the IMPD Robbery Office. At this time Investigator believes that the five individuals involved in this case are responsible for at least nine robberies in both Marion and Hendricks County.
Antonio Cowherd 19 years of age, Mikel Kendrick 19 years of age along with the three juvenile males were preliminarily charged with Robbery. The two adults were transported to the Arrestee Processing Center, and the juveniles were transported to Juvenile Detention by the Marion County Sheriff’s Office. The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office will review the case and make a final changing decision.
