WASHINGTON, DC – Senator Dan Coats (R-Ind.) today spoke on the Senate floor in support of legislation that would strip roughly $540 million in federal funding away from the Planned Parenthood Federation of America and re-direct it to women’s health care services at facilities like community health centers and hospitals, which have almost fifteen times more facilities nationwide and provide more comprehensive health services.

“The barbaric practice of conducting abortions in a way that promotes harvesting fetal organs, or profiting from such practices, has no place in modern society,” said Coats. “Planned Parenthood’s disgusting practices should not receive a dime of taxpayer money.”
Coats said the legislation he is supporting would ensure that federal funding is utilized for women’s health services including relevant diagnostic laboratory and radiology services, well-child care, prenatal and postpartum care, immunization, family planning services including contraception, STD testing, cervical and breast cancer screenings and referrals.
