INDIANAPOLIS – Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) officers were on routine patrol in the area of 42nd and Kitley, when they heard shots fired.
Just before 7p.m., on 04/28/2016, officers were on routine patrol when they heard shots fired and observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed, Eastbound on Meadowlark through Kitley Ave. The vehicle then drove through a privacy fence and struck a house in the 6600 block of Meadowlark Dr, causing structural damage. Officers went to check on the driver and observed that he had been shot at least one time. There was a juvenile male in the front seat with the driver, who was not shot. Officers provided medical attention while waiting for EMS personnel to respond. EMS transported the male victim, who was in critical condition, to Eskenazi Hospital. The child was transported to Riley Hospital for a check out.
IMPD homicide detectives responded and are on scene attempting to locate witnesses and ascertain what happened. Multiple shell casings were spread across two blocks of Meadowlark, making this a large crime scene. At least two residences received gun fire, but no one inside was injured. Marion County-Indianapolis Forensic Services Agency is currently at the location collecting possible forensic evidence.
The victim, 64-year-old Leroy Lee, succumbed to his injuries early this morning.
