Celebrating Avon at the Avon-Washington Township Public Library
September 26 @ 11:00 am – 3:00 pm
Avon, IN— All are welcome at the Annual Celebrating Avon Community Event at the Avon-Washington Township Public Library (AWTPL)! This free, family-friendly festival takes place on Saturday, September 26, 11 a.m.—3 p.m. both inside and outside of the library. The event kicks off at 11 a.m. sharp with the “Ringing of the Bell” followed immediately by a special Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for the library’s new meeting rooms and gathering space, Huron Hall. Thank you to Avon Chamber of Commerce for helping with the Ribbon Cutting. AWTPL is so excited to open the doors to this new building which is made possible by the generous donation of Joyce Marie Huron Trent. Her kindness and support of the library will continue to inspire and uplift the community for many years to come.
After the Ribbon Cutting, attendees are free to explore in and around the library. Enter Huron Hall and visit different artisans demonstrating their crafts along the “Pioneer Path” including woodworking, rosemaling, glass blowing, quilting, yarn spinning, and more! There will also be model trains, local parks organizations, and a beekeeper teaching about pollinators. Outside of Huron Hall will be the chalk walk, archery, and Civil War Reenactors. Wander around to the east side of the library and take a trip down the giant inflatable slide, enjoy music provided by 98.9 WYRZ, and check out tractors, a fire truck, and the petting zoo! Attendees can play games like chess, checkers, and putt-putt inside the library. There will be food for purchase available inside the children’s programming rooms. This annual event is centered around community and celebrates the rich history of Avon. Check out historical displays and visit with our local historian, Susie Truax, to learn about the library’s digital archives. Don’t forget to shop at the Friends of the Library’s Bookstore 11 a.m.–3 p.m. on the lower level of the library. Hendricks Power Cooperative will be here for the fan-favorite Candy Drop at 1 p.m. which will be behind a barricade on the east end of the main building. The Avon Police Department will give a K9 demonstration at 2 p.m. Parking is available at the library, 498 N. Avon Ave., Avon, IN 46123. Carpooling is encouraged. Registration is not required, and you don’t need a ticket to attend. This is a free event!
