Event and project ideas continue to flow from individuals, civic groups and business organizations interested in celebrating Hendricks County’s 200th anniversary.
The Bicentennial Committee endorsed another 13 submissions this month and the creativity keeps on coming.
Sixth grader Sam Dunkel combined his love for LEGO and the Hendricks County 4-H Fair.
Taking the lead from Fox’s “LEGO Masters” reality show, Dunkel chose to create a LEGO Bicentennial Birthday Cake, featuring scenes from the past 200 years in Hendricks County. See the cake in person at the fair, July 14-20 or check out his YouTube video here.
The Bicentennial is the theme of the 2024 Hendricks County 4-H Fair.
Visitors will likely see similar displays like Dunkel has created, including a special Happy Farmers 4-H Club logo and T-shirt and all can join in for the Birthday Bash at the fairgrounds on July 14, including inflatables, old fashioned games and a foam party.
In addition, look for the Hendricks County Antique Tractor and Machinery Association’s parade float with symbols of the Bicentennial, the official logo and a large birthday cake at various parades and on display during the fair.
Throughout the year, annual community events will feature a Bicentennial theme, such as the Pittsboro Freedom Celebration or the Tri-Kappa Fair on the Square in Danville this fall.
Gallery on the Square’s Family Fun Art Fair is no exception and will return in conjunction with the Plein Air painting competition on Aug. 10. Family Fun includes face painting, crafts, chalk drawings and more from 1 to 3:45 p.m.
A prize of $200 will be given to the artist with the best work depicting Hendricks County’s rich history.
The final two Bicentennial endorsements were awarded to the Avon-Washington Township Public Library for their historical book written by the Huron Heritage room staff and to be sold at the Celebrating Avon event on Sept. 28.
The Library will also work with Club 512, a teen club at the library to develop a time capsule, stored at the library, with instructions to open to the public in 2074.
If creating a project or hosting an event isn’t your passion, many in the community are still looking for volunteers at various events, including the Hendricks County Rib-Fest and BBQ and the Hendricks County 4-H Fair.
