Indianapolis, IN – A sequence of two separate crashes led to the death of a man early this morning on I-465 near I-70 on the east side of town. Just before 6:00 a.m. emergency crews were called to the scene of a serious crash on I-465 northbound at the 42.9 mile marker. Callers were reporting a pedestrian was possibly struck on the highway. Upon arrival first responders located the remains of an adult male on the left side of the roadway along with a passenger car with front end damage. The male was pronounced deceased on the scene, the driver of the passenger car was transported to the hospital with minor injuries.
Preliminary investigation has revealed prior to the fatal crash, there was another crash involving a passenger car and a semi. Both of those vehicles had pulled to the side of the road, however the driver of the passenger car exited his vehicle and for unknown reasons walked across the left two lanes of the interstate. A silver 2018 Chevrolet struck the male who was in the roadway. Investigators are still trying to determine why the deceased male was walking into the roadway.
The driver of the silver Chevrolet was not intoxicated. The left two lanes of I-465 were closed for approximately three hours while the crash was investigated and the wreckage was removed.
