Vigo County: Saturday, February 2, at approximately 11:15 p.m., Indiana State Police troopers observed a female motorist drive her vehicle into a parking lot of a local restaurant. The troopers observed the driver exit her vehicle and stumble to the door of the restaurant which had recently closed. Once realizing the restaurant had closed, the female driver attempted to re-enter her vehicle, which she had parked next to the Indiana State Police troopers’ fully marked cars. It was at that time that the troopers also detected a strong odor of alcoholic beverage coming from the female driver.
Trooper Courtland Woodward approached the female driver who was attempting to get back into her vehicle. The female driver was then identified as Disney Smith, 25, of Terre Haute, Indiana. Trooper Courtland then conducted an Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated investigation. During the course of the investigation, Smith was offered several field sobriety tests and a certified breath test. Smith refused to participate in any of the field sobriety tests and the certified breath test. Upon her refusal, Smith was arrested for Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated and transported to the Vigo County Jail where she was processed into the jail. Smith’s driving record indicated that she had a prior Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated conviction in 2016.
Indiana State Police Troopers assisting in the investigation were Master Trooper Ty Lightle and Trooper Mike Organ of the Putnamville State Police District.
