Vigo County – Last evening at 9:00, Indiana State Police Trooper Rondell Shelton was on duty when a dispatch was put out by Vigo County Central Dispatch of a robbery. Reports indicated the suspect was a white male wearing a hospital mask. Reports also indicated the suspect took the female victim’s cell phone and her White 2016 Ford Fusion at gun point. Indiana State University dispatched a robbery at the Marathon gas station at 13th Street and Ft Harrison a short time later. Vigo County Central Dispatch then dispatched reports of another robbery at the Casey’s gas station at 25th Street and Ft Harrison. The suspect in all three reports matched the description of the vehicle theft that was originally dispatched. Trooper Shelton located a vehicle matching the description on 25th Street near Maple Avenue. Trooper Shelton activated his emergency lights while behind the vehicle. The vehicle sped up and headed west on Maple avenue. Trooper Shelton requested assistance and pursued the vehicle with all emergency lights and siren activated. The pursuit started on 25th Street heading south towards Maple Avenue. The vehicle pursuit eventually ended after the vehicle lost a tire on 1st just south of Wabash Avenue. The suspect then ran from the vehicle and jumped off a 20 foot ledge near the Wabash River landing on the ground injuring his ankle. Trooper Shelton during the foot pursuit lost his footing on the embankment and injured his shoulder. The suspect was placed under arrest and evaluated for injuries. The suspect was lifted by a winch and sled by the Terre Haute Fire Department to safety. The suspect was transported to Union Hospital by the Terre Haute Fire Department to evaluate his injury. The suspect was treated for an ankle injury and released. He was taken into custody by the Terre Haute Police Department and transported to the Vigo County Jail. The Terre Haute Police Department is currently working the robbery investigations.
Arrested: Nathan Todd Gabaldon-Curtis age 27, of Terre Haute (driver).
Incarcerated in Vigo County Jail.
Charges: Resisting Law Enforcement, Driving While Suspended (Prior), Reckless Driving, Criminal Mischief and Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated
Assisting were ISP Trooper Justin Bell, Trooper Mike Organ, and Trooper Brad Fyfe. Also assisting were officers from the Terre Haute Police Department, Indiana State University Police, and the Terre Haute Fire Department.
Under the Law, criminal charges are merely accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
