Vermillion County—This afternoon at 4:50, Indiana State Police Trooper Daniel Organ (Lafayette District) was patrolling Interstate 74 near the four mile marker, when he witnessed a light blue passenger car in the westbound passing lane traveling at 84 miles-per-hour.
The vehicle was stopped and during conversation with the driver, Trooper Daniel Organ noticed the smells of what appeared to be burnt Marijuana and an alcoholic beverage. Trooper Michael Organ (Putnamville District and brother) and K-9 “Zeke” were assisting at the scene, when “Zeke” gave a positive indication of suspected illegal drugs inside the sedan.
The driver, 26-year-old Tyrell D. Grubbs of Danville, Illinois, was given field sobriety tests at the scene and at the conclusion of those tests, was transported to the Vermillion County Jail. Grubbs was preliminarily charged with Possession of Marijuana and Driving While Intoxicated (Refusal).
Upon arrival at the jail, Grubbs was found to have approximately four grams of suspected Marijuana in his clothing. No other drugs were found at the scene.
Two passengers were not charged and released from the scene.
Under the Law, criminal charges are merely accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
