INDIANAPOLIS – The Indiana State Fair recognized the top competitors at the 4-H Grand Drive in the Indiana Farmers Coliseum on the opening Monday of the Indiana State Fair. The overall grand champions were selected from the swine, sheep, meat goat, heifers, and market steer departments.
These 4-H exhibitors worked all year to bring in their very best animals, several of which have competed year after year in the Grand Champion 4-H Drive. The second champion of the night was Becca Chamberlain of Randolph County. She won the Grand Champion Breeding Heifer with her Shorthorn Plus, named Izzy, who she’s owned for almost a year.
Chamberlain couldn’t quite come up with the word to describe her feelings, “It feels really great, exciting, and awesome,” she said. “I worked so hard and it’s just good to see my hard work pay off.”
Some of the hard work Chamberlain mentioned involves keeping Izzy cool in the summer to protect her hair and caring for the animal daily. Chamberlain is a five-year 4-H member and has participated in the Grand Champion competition four of those five years.
