Helmet Reduces Rider’s Injuries

Vigo County—Around 2:00 this afternoon, Indiana State Police and Vigo County emergency agencies responded to a motorcycle crash on US 41 northbound near Evans Avenue.

Preliminary investigation revealed 75-year-old Raymond L. Ray of Plainfield, IN., was operating his 2008 Harley Davidson motorcycle northbound on US 41 near Evans Avenue, when he struck loose gravel causing him to lose control and crash into a ditch.

Raymond Ray was transported to Union Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening internal injuries.

“Ray was wearing a helmet that greatly reduced his injuries and very likely saved his life”, commented investigating Master Trooper Jason Schoffstall.

Assisting were Vigo County Sheriff’s Office, Otter Creek Fire/Rescue, Trans Care EMS, and Gills Towing.

Raymond Ray’s son also lost control and crashed. This incident was investigated by the Vigo County Sheriff’s Office. No other details available from ISP.

Indiana State Police strongly encourage motorcyclists to wear helmets and protective clothing.

Under the Law, criminal charges are merely accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
