Avon High School Hires Kiah Ferrell to Lead Softball Program

Avon, Ind. – The Avon High School (AHS) Athletic Department has hired Kiah Ferrell as varsity Softball Head Coach. Her hiring follows a thorough selection process that involved administrators, educators, parents, and student-athletes. Her demonstrated leadership and track record of success as a student and athlete in high school and college distinguished her from a crowded and competitive group of candidates.

“I am excited to be joining Avon Athletics as the new head softball coach,” says Farrell. “It is evident to me that Avon Softball has something special going on. This program has an excellent reputation and is highly competitive. I look forward to continuing the tradition.” She is excited to have to the opportunity to begin her coaching career in Avon, and she acknowledges that she inherits both a strong team culture set by previous coaches and a group of talented and experienced student-athletes returning to the program this year. She calls her situation, “every new coach’s dream.” 

“We could not be happier with the hiring of Kiah Ferrell as our next Varsity Softball Coach,” says Corporation Athletic Director Jason Young. “Kiah is an extremely competitive person, and we feel that she is absolutely the best person to lead our program. She is committed to our vision for Avon Athletics, and we believe that she is the perfect Coach to lead our tradition-rich program into an exciting future.” 

During her career at Plainfield High School, Ferrell was a three-sport team captain in volleyball, basketball, and softball and graduated with academic honors. She continued her softball career at Southeastern University and Indiana University South Bend, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in Pre-Med/Biology and a minor in Chemistry. She is employed as a Physician Assistant. 

Referring to her priority of developing student-athletes both on and off the field, Ferrell says, “One of my biggest goals is to prepare them for their next chapter because it is always about more than softball. I look forward to leading this smart, strong group of young women and to writing a new chapter in the story of Avon High School Softball.” 

Ferrell begins her coaching role immediately.
