Town of Avon and Avon Junior Athletics League Begin Partnership to Expand Sports Opportunities to the Community

Avon, Indiana – The Town of Avon and Avon Junior Athletic Association (AJAA) are thrilled to announce their partnership to continue promoting physical activity and sports opportunities among the youth in the community.

Avon Junior Athletic Association is a non-profit organization that provides opportunities for children in grades K-12 to participate in a variety of sports programs. The Town of Avon is committed to creating a healthy and active community; this partnership is a natural fit.

With this new partnership, AJAA will have access to the Town of Avon’s growing selection of properties for practices, games, and tournaments. The Town of Avon will also support the organization’s events, fundraisers, and expanding staffing needs.

“As our community continues to grow, AJAA has had its eyes set on the future and has been exploring ways to ensure that youth sports remain accessible and successful in our community for decades to come,” said John McDavid, Board President of AJAA. “We are therefore excited to announce that later this summer AJAA will pass the baton to the Town of Avon, and AJAA will formally become a part of the Town’s Parks & Recreation Department. We are thrilled that with the same dedicated staff and volunteers who are the lifeblood of AJAA, working together with the Town and its resources, the future looks bright for Avon Youth Sports.”

The Town of Avon is equally enthusiastic about the partnership. “These are exciting first steps that the Town of Avon and Avon Junior Athletic Association are taking to strengthen and grow youth sports programs in our community,” said Robert Pope, Town of Avon Council President. “Robust youth athletic programs help teach our young people to be future leaders and good teammates. Residents of this community deserve that investment in its future. Over the next few years, the Town of Avon plans to grow athletic program availability and include more athletes by providing the financial muscle to improve current properties and strategically acquire more. This helps us deliver our mission to make Avon a safe, vibrant community for ACTIVE families and businesses.”

Justin Thompson, Executive Director for AJAA shared, “As Avon continues to grow, we have sought a partner dedicated to serving youth sports in the same fashion as AJAA and providing resources to develop youth sports opportunities in Avon. We are excited that the Town of Avon will provide the necessary resources, and the time has come to join forces with the Town of Avon.”

This partnership is just the beginning of what promises to be a long and fruitful relationship between AJAA and the Town of Avon. Together, they will work to promote physical activity and sports and create a healthy and active community for all.
