Two Injured in Tipton County Crash

Tipton County – On Friday, officers from the Indiana State Police and the Tipton County Sheriff’s Department responded to a two vehicle crash on U.S. 31 near Tipton County Road 200 North, in which two people were injured.

The preliminary crash investigation by Trooper Eric Treon revealed that Kory McGlan, 42, Indianapolis, IN was driving a 2008 Ford Taurus southbound on  U.S. 31, near Tipton County Road 200 North. Matthew Laughlin, 20, Arcadia, IN was driving a 2005 Chrysler 300 southbound on U.S. 31, at a high rate of speed. The Chrysler rear-ended the Ford. Laughlin was ejected from the Chrysler.

Laughlin was transported by ambulance to a Kokomo hospital with life threatening injuries. He was eventually transported, by a medical helicopter, to an Indianapolis hospital. McGlan was transported by ambulance to a Kokomo hospital with non-life threatening injuries. He was later transferred to an Indianapolis hospital.

This is an ongoing investigation, but at this time neither the use of alcohol nor narcotics is suspected as having contributed to this crash. Laughlin was not wearing a seat belt which Trooper Treon believes would have prevented his ejection and reduced the severity of his injuries suffered in the crash. McGlan was wearing a seat belt which helped reduce the severity his injuries.

Laughlin was cited for reckless driving causing injury and following another vehicle too closely. McGlan was issued citations for driving while suspended and not having proof of auto insurance.

Trooper Treon was assisted at the crash scene by Trooper Taylor Roth, the Cicero Fire Department Fire Department, and Seal Ambulance Service.
