Troopers Investigating Shooting on I-70 near Shadeland Avenue

Indianapolis, IN – Early Sunday evening at 7:34 p.m., the Indiana State Police, along with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department responded to reports of a person shot inside a vehicle on I-70 westbound near Shadeland Avenue. Upon arrival an adult male was located with injuries consistent with a gunshot wound, that person was transported to a local hospital in critical condition. Another adult also suffered injuries in the incident, however it is not believed that person was hit by gunfire. 

Preliminary investigation by Indiana State Police Detectives determined an adult male was in the back seat of a passenger car on I-70 when they were allegedly shot at by someone in another vehicle. The driver of the car suffered minor injuries when they were hit by shrapnel from the gunfire. Investigators believe a third person was in the car that was hit by gunfire. However, that person fled the scene on foot before police arrived. 

At this time investigators do not have a description of the suspect or the suspect vehicle. Anyone traveling in the area of I-70 near Shadeland Avenue around 7:30 p.m. who may have witnessed this incident is asked to contact the Indiana State Police. 

The investigation is ongoing at this time and there is no further information to release at this time.
