Indianapolis, IN – Troopers are investigating a two vehicle crash that claimed the life of an Indianapolis man. Just after 10:00 a.m. emergency crews were called to the scene of a serious crash on I-65 southbound near Southport Road. When first responders arrived they located a heavily damaged passenger car with the driver entrapped inside. The male driver was unconscious and not breathing. Bystanders were tending to a female passenger who had suffered critical injuries. The driver, 22 year old Tyberious Freeman Garrett of Indianapolis was pronounced deceased on the scene. The female passenger was transported to the hospital in critical condition.
Preliminary investigation on scene by Indiana State Police Crash Reconstructionists revealed Garret was driving south on I-65 when he lost control of his vehicle and slid sideways into the back of a trailer attached to a construction vehicle. The construction vehicle was parked on the side of the road inside an active construction zone marked by orange barrels and signage. There were no construction workers injured in this incident. Investigators believe unsafe speed contributed to this crash however the investigation is ongoing.
The southbound lanes of I-65 were restricted until 1:30 p.m. while the crash was investigated and the wreckage was removed. State Police were assisted by the Indianapolis Fire Department, Indianapolis EMS, and INDOT
I drive to work everyday and someone is alway ls going down 31 over 55 mph today I went and got breakfast for my employees around 9am and I almost gotten into two different wrecks because there are no police around and they are speeding !
