Eagle Watch at Patoka Lake, Saturday, Jan. 9

Look for bald eagles in the wild and see one up close with other live birds of prey during Patoka Lake’s 28th annual Eagle Watch, Jan. 9.

 

The program runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. EST, with indoor and outdoor programs at the Patoka Lake Nature Center.

 

The property’s resident bald eagle and other live raptors will be featured in educational programs with Patoka Lake interpretive naturalist Dana Reckelhoff. Patoka Lake wildlife specialist Todd Eubank will lead a driving tour to hot spots for eagle viewing. Guest presenter Rex Watters, wildlife specialist at Monroe Lake, will share his experiences from the 1980s eagle reintroduction program and present information about eagles throughout Indiana.

 

Light snacks and refreshments will be provided. Participants also can bring a sack lunch. Kids activities and crafts will be available from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

 

Advance registration is required. Participation costs $5 per person. Children ages 5 and younger can attend for free.

 

Participants should dress for the weather and bring binoculars, spotting scopes and cameras.
