INDIANAPOLIS (April 16, 2019) – The Indiana University School of Medicine Bowen Center for Health Workforce Research & Policy will host its annual Indiana Health Workforce Summit on May 21 at the Indiana Government Center South at 10 N. Senate Ave. in downtown Indianapolis.
The vision for the summit is to serve as a forum for learning, discussion and collaboration for stakeholders from all perspectives and sectors. The theme of this year’s event is Workforce Alignment in the Health Sector.
“Health care is a complex, high stakes industry. Its workforce includes a diverse skill mix ranging from entry-level to high-skills occupations,” said Dr. Hannah Maxey, director of the Bowen Center. “Although commonly linked to population health conversations, the health workforce is equally important to the economic health of Indiana communities. The Bowen Center is delighted to provide a platform for dialogue for all voices with a stake in health care.”
Presentations and discussions will be given on the demand drivers for the health workforce (population health and employer needs) and policy levers that are critical to alignment (including occupational regulation, education and reimbursement).
A networking breakfast kicks off the summit at 8 a.m., followed by the Torchbearer Award Ceremony and keynote addresses from Dr. Kristina Box, commissioner of the Indiana State Department of Health, and Fred Payne, commissioner of the Indiana Department of Workforce Development.
The summit also will feature a networking lunch, breakout sessions and a panel discussion on the topic of Responding to demand: What policy levers are critical to workforce alignment?
