Soil Health Cost-Share Available to Backyard Growers, Small and Diversified Farms

Small farm operations and backyard growers across Hendricks County now have a new soil health initiative to pursue.

The initiative provides technical and cost-share assistance to improve soil health and water quality through a variety of soil conservation practices. Specific practices that are encouraged and applicable for matching grant funds include: soil tests for nutrients, cover crops, mulching, and native plantings.

A Clean Water Indiana competitive grant funds the cost-share program. Applications are accepted and reviewed on a rolling basis, yet the application window may close if program capacity is reached.

Operations of less than 20 acres and projects exceeding $200 are a priority.

All program information is available online at marionswcd.org/programs-and-events.
