INDOT Plans I-465 Partial Closure for Pavement, Bridge Repairs beginning in September

I-465 Closure

INDIANAPOLIS – The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) will begin partial closures on I-465 between I-70 and I-65 on the city’s southwest side for approximately 18 days to complete pavement and bridge repairs beginning in September.

The construction contract for this project will be awarded in August. The scope of the project will focus on the following:

  • Pavement removal and replacement and concrete bridge approach replacements at 4 bridges
  • I-465 over Kentucky Ave./SR67
  • I-465 over State Ditch
  • I-465 over White River
  • I-465 over Harding St./SR37
  • Bridge joint replacements
  • Asphalt and concrete pavement patching

INDOT is anticipating closing I-465 eastbound at 9 p.m. on Friday, September 14 and reopen on or before Monday, September 24 at 5 a.m. Then, I-465 westbound is expected to be closed at 9 p.m. on Friday, September 28 and reopen on or before Monday, October 8 at 5 a.m. Both sides of I-465 will not be closed at the same time.

I-65 and I-70 will serve as the detour route for I-465 during the closure. Traffic that would normally use I-465 to reach S.R. 37 or S.R. 67 will be directed to use I-70 to Harding Street (Exit 78). Southbound Harding Street will take motorists to S.R. 37 or S.R. 67 via Kentucky Avenue. Traffic that would normally use U.S. 31 should consider I-65 as an alternate route.

The closure expedites the work needed to be completed and eliminates maintaining traffic during this significant project, which could take up to several months to complete with motorists driving through the work zone.
