Want Your Tax Refund As Soon As Possible? Skip the Paper

INDIANAPOLIS – The Indiana Department of Revenue (DOR) encourages individual filers to skip the paper forms in 2019 and go digital. Not only are returns filed electronically often issued six times faster than paper returns, but opting for direct deposit on those electronic returns may decrease the time it takes to get refunds by an additional week or more.

“Many Hoosiers depend on tax refunds this time of year to pay bills or for additional help with expenses,” stated DOR Commissioner Adam Krupp. “The best way for individuals to get the most accurate and quickest refund is to file electronically and choose the direct deposit option.”

Electronic filing has many benefits including:

  • Confirmation—Individuals receive a confirmation when their tax return is accepted by both DOR and the Internal Revenue Service.
  • Increased Accuracy – Filing using electronic software decreases the number of errors from 20 percent to just 2 percent.
  • Time Saved – Filing electronically saves a trip to the post office and the time to find and download paper forms.

Some individuals may even qualify to file their taxes electronically for free using the Indiana free file (INfreefile) program. If an individual’s adjusted gross income was less than $66,000 in 2018, they may qualify for this no-cost filing option. To learn more about INfreefile visit freefile.dor.in.gov.
