Town of Brownsburg Food Drive Benefits Local Pantry

Brownsburg — The Town of Brownsburg “Let’s Give” food drive helps a local pantry keep shelves stocked with non-perishable items through the holiday season.

Town staff encourages the community’s support for its collection of canned and boxed items so area families in need can keep meals on the table. Donations can be made in the Brownsburg Town Hall lobby, 61 N. Green Street, from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays, November 4 through 27.

The collection will be delivered to the Messiah Lutheran Food Pantry, which serves more than 1,500 Hendricks County families. The pantry assists on average 25 Hendricks County families with boxes of food each Saturday morning, with the greatest need in November and December. The following items are suggested:

• Cereal and oatmeal
• Peanut butter
• Canned meat, chicken and tuna
• Canned or dry soup
• Canned fruit, vegetables and beans
• Boxed/canned potatoes
• Macaroni & cheese, rice and pasta
• Pasta sauce

Hunger is an issue even in the suburbs. Nearly 2,200 Hendricks County households receive SNAP benefits and may not always have enough to feed their families. The Town is counting on residents, businesses and civic organizations to help make sure our neighbors in need don’t go without a meal.

Messiah Lutheran Church pantry volunteer Jon Jordan said, “The  Messiah Lutheran Church food pantry is so very thankful for the support we receive year around from the Town of Brownsburg and the caring folks of our town. This time of year when the need picks up we all step up, and together serve our neighbors in their time of need.”

The 2018 “Let’s Give” food drive collected more than 5,000 non-perishable items for the pantry.
