INDIANAPOLIS – A 28-year veteran of the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) was arrested Tuesday on allegations of domestic violence.
Just before 12 a.m., on 10/23/2018, Officers were dispatched to the Fitts home on reports of a disturbance. Responding officers learned that Officer Troy Fitts was allegedly involved and immediately requested an IMPD supervisor. The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) responded to the scene and established probable cause for an arrest. Fitts was arrested and his equipment was surrendered at that time.
Detectives will submit their findings to the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office for a review of criminal charges. Fitts was preliminarily charged Tuesday with the following:
- Battery
- Domestic Battery
Fitts has been employed with IMPD since October 1990. He was most recently assigned to North District as a Day Shift Officer. Fitts will be placed on administrative leave while criminal and administrative investigations are conducted.
A charge of a crime is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
