Rokita Calls For Sanctuary City Defunding In Spending Bill

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Todd Rokita urged his congressional colleagues to defund and put an end to dangerous sanctuary cities in the January spending bill.

“Sanctuary city policies that harbor illegal immigrant criminals are lawless and dangerous,” said Congressman Todd Rokita. “President Donald Trump is absolutely right, we must put an end to these sanctuary cities that threaten the safety of Americans”

Rokita continued: “I’ve introduced legislation to treat sanctuary city politicians as criminals, and we now have an opportunity to end funding for dangerous sanctuary cities and send a clear message to lawless politicians who are breaking federal laws.”

Congressman Rokita has been a vocal and active supporter of Kate’s Law that would defund sanctuary cities.

In December, Congressman Todd Rokita introduced the SLAP ACT (Stopping Lawless Actions of Politicians) which would establish penalties for sanctuary city politicians who ignore federal immigration enforcement.

Last week, Congressman Todd Rokita praised President Donald Trump’s Acting-ICE Director Thomas Homan for urging the Department of Justice to treat sanctuary city officials as criminals for ignoring federal immigration laws.
