Indiana Department of Education Announces Funding Recipients of 21st Century Community Learning Centers Program

INDIANAPOLIS – The Indiana Department of Education (IDOE) announced today the list of recipients to receive funding through the 21st Century Community Learning Centers (21st CCLC) Program for Cohort 9. Over $8.4 million will be allocated to 38 out-of-school learning programs, 10 of which are new to the 21st CCLC Program. Cohort 9 funding will be available to support the awarded programs, students, and staff for the next four years.

“Providing funding through our 21st Century Community Program is critical in addressing low student achievement,” said Dr. Jennifer McCormick, Indiana Superintendent of Public Instruction. “We are pleased to partner with the awarded recipients as we work to accelerate out-of-school learning and build capacity at the local level.”

The 21st CCLC grant is continued through implementation of the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) as authorized in Title IV, Part B. These 21st CCLC funds help support local programs that provide a safe and enriching learning environment to bolster regular school-day learning and programming. In addition, parent, family, and community engagement activities also receive support. Activities implemented by current grantees include, but are not limited to, tutoring and mentoring, academic enrichment (e.g. homework assistance, reading, math, science, and technology programs), service learning, character education, physical education and recreational activities, and dropout prevention. Funds are awarded through a competitive process to a select group of applicants demonstrating a strong commitment to expanding high-quality out-of-school programming.
