IMPD searches for a suspect who illegally entered home and attempted to assault a child sexually

IMPDINDIANAPOLIS – Detectives with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department Sex Crimes Unit are searching for a suspect who illegally entered a home and attempted to assault a child sexually.

On July 27, 2016, just after 5:30 a.m., officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) were dispatched to the 1400 block of South Belmont Street reference a burglary and attempted sexual assault of a child. Detectives later learned that an adult white male, in his 30’s or 40’s, forced entry into the home while the occupants were sleeping and attempted to sexually assault a child.  The suspect was described as a white male, 5 foot 8 inches to 5 foot 10 inches tall and weighing approximately 170 to 195 lbs. At the time of the incident, he was seen wearing dark blue shorts with yellow stripping or flames on the thigh area of the shorts.

IMPD would like to remind members of the media that this is an active case involving a child and that a suspect is still on the run. Any attempts to interview the victim or family is not appropriate and very may well prevent the family from future cooperation with our detectives. We urge our media partners to act both ethically and with a sense of responsibility to the sensitive of this case. We are issuing this release in an attempt to warn residents in the area to remain vigilant and ensure you secure your doors and windows.

The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department is asking anyone who has any information about this incident or the suspect to please report the information to Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana tat (317) 262-8477 (TIPS). Information shared via Crime Stoppers should be considered anonymous.
