Driver Injured after Commercial Vehicle Roll Over Crash in Putnam County

Putnam County—This morning at 8:55, Indiana State Police Troopers and Putnam County emergency agencies responded to a commercial vehicle roll over crash on US 231 just north of US 40 near Tall Lakes Road. The crash resulted in injuries to the driver.

Preliminary investigated revealed a 2008 Kenworth tri-axle dump truck, driven by 54-year-old James Manuel of Terre Haute, IN., was northbound on US 231, drifted off the right side of the roadway, struck a few trees, ultimately rolling over and coming to rest on the vehicle’s right side in the roadway. The driver was found lying in the middle of the highway and appeared to have been ejected during the crash. James Manuel was transported by Putnam County Operation Life Paramedics to Putnam County Hospital for treatment of lacerations and possible fractures.

The dump truck was owned by McGuire Excavating and Trucking of Terre Haute and was loaded with construction aggregate.

A commercial vehicle inspection of the Kenworth was conducted by ISP Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Master Trooper Matt Ames. Only minor, non critical, violations were found. Manuel was cited for failure to wear vehicle restraint.

US 231 was closed from approximately 8:55 to 10:20 for crash investigation and clean-up.

The crash was investigated by ISP Master Trooper Angie Hahn. Assisting were Master Trooper DuJuan Presley-McFadden, Indiana State Excise Police, Greencastle Fire/Rescue, Putnam County Sheriff’s Office, Putnam County Operation Life, INDOT, and Curtis Wrecker Service.
